Quick and Easy Tips for Marketing Your Blog

PageRankImage via Wikipedia
The longer you have been blogging for the easier blog marketing gets. However, if this is your very first blog and you are wondering how to get readers to it then you are in the right place. First let me just say that marketing your blog is going to require patience, and being consistent. You will have to update your blog frequently if you want to keep readers coming back for more. We are all guilty of making a blog, wanting it to be great, putting only one entry into it and then never going back to update it again. I think everyone in cyber world has done this at one time or another. Here are some great tips to use when trying to get your blog out there and get new readers.

Make sure that your blog has the track back feature. Let me tell you why. When you have the track back feature on your blog, you are allowing other people to link to your blog. Maybe someone has a post to post on their blog that is relevant to one of yours. They can use the talkback to your post, and send their readers to your blog so that they know what they are referring to. Another good thing to remember is that if someone gives you a track back, it is a courtesy to return that to their blog if at all possible.

Having a Google account and submitting a sitemap is almost a must when you are blog marketing. Doing so will allow Google to know how often you are updating your blog and they will automatically know of any changes that you have made to it as well. This will let Google get those new pages indexed faster and get them into search results much quicker than if you did not have the sitemap. There is a certain way you have to do the sitemap for Google, and they can explain that to you. Just know this is an important step to blog marketing.

Exchanging links with authority blogs and websites that are in your same market is another great way to get the word out about your blog. The authority sites are going to have a higher page rank, and will also be listed high in Google’s search results. So do some searches and check those out and see if they are up to exchanging links. If they are not, you could always just add those into your blogroll. You do not need permission to do that if they are not into linking. However, in the world of blogs, most blog owners are thankful for all links, and are willing to return the favor.

You are going to want to be sure that all of your posts are formatted. Doing so will leave out any confusion for the search engines and you will have everything nice and neat and all organized. The label tags are there for a reason when you are dealing with blogs. So using them and not leaving them out is a great idea.

Tracking is another part of blog marketing that is so very important. You want to be able to track your visitors and clickers to know where they are coming from. You want to be able to tell what keywords they searched on to find your blog and where they did their searching. Doing so will help take out all of the guess work when it comes to blog marketing. You will know what keywords are working, and which are not.

Allowing RSS feeds from your blog is also another great blog marketing tool. You are going to find that when you allow RSS feeds, your blog is going to end up all over the internet with a link back to it and that is a good thing. This is a wonderful way to get links to your blog with little or no effort. People that subscribe to your blog’s RSS feeds are able to then post your blog posts on their sites or blogs. Which in return gives you a link on their site or page that they have you on.

Blog marketing is only as hard as you make it. Get your blog to the top using hard work and patience.

As my regular readers know, I occasionally like to have a good rant about the scams that are going on out there. It looks like that I'm not the only one these days. Mark Dulisse added a post to his blog that really takes some of these so-called gurus to the woodshed and works them over. All I can say about it is: "Great Job, Mark!"

There are tons of products that are popping up with all similar sales copy which all lead to a similar membership site with a similar

I've been blogging on the steps that I have been taking in the launch of the new Mobile Friendly blog but have failed to let you in on all of the activity in leading up to the actual site launch (i.e. promotion). In past articles I have touched on finding a keyword inclusive domain, the theme and plugins, monetization, and content. What I have failed to report to you is the list building activity going on behind the scenes.

Many of the links that I have created so

Mobile Friendly Project - Content

Before I start really promoting MobileFriendly.net , I want to have at least ten articles posted to the site. Of those ten I want at least half of them to be something that will catch the casual readers attention and get them to bookmark them for later reference and, in a perfect world, share them with their friends. With these anchor posts in place, I can then feel comfortable about sending large amounts of traffic to the site and retaining some of them as long term readers and

Your Blog Needs to Be Mobile Ready

Image via Wikipedia

In recent weeks I have been focused on having mobile-ready blogs because there is so much traffic coming to sites from mobile devices these days. Mobile devices, smart phones, internet ready tablets , etc. are all gaining in popularity for web browsing, so it makes sense to have a site that is viewable by those devices. If your site is not mobile compatible, you are losing a ton of potential blog readers and customers.

There are so many different options for Wordpress that learning every little thing about it and what it can do is nearly impossible. You may think you have everything mastered and then something comes along that is either new or you just have overlooked it in the past. Brand New Must Have Tool for Wordpress Bloggers – WPSyndicator

If you have a blog, you already know the importance of traffic.  What if you had a way to syndicate your blog posts across an assortment of Web 2.0 sites, where interested readers could get a taste of your content and then click on a link to go to your blog?  Well, guess what – now you do!  It's a brand new plug-in called WPSyndicator, developed by Andy Fletcher.

WPSyndicator takes an excerpt of your blog post and posts it for you to 14 popular Web 2.0 sites plus will automatically tweet it for you to your Twitter account.  Of course, along with the excerpt will be a link back to your blog for the viewer to read the rest of the post.  Brilliant, isn't it?  Not only do you get direct traffic but a very valuable backlink as well, if you use anchor text for the link.

You have the choice of what to set the excerpt to, with the default being 500 characters (around a paragraph or two).  The key is to give the reader just enough to get them hooked and be eager to go to your blog to read the rest.  You can easily adjust the length of the excerpt, depending on the content you are syndicating, so you'll always be able to have just the right amount out there as bait.

Andy does offer lifetime updates to WPSyndicator, which makes it even more of a bargain.  He's already issued a couple of updates that incorporated features suggested by his beta testers and pre-launch customers.  The latest update added the ability to syndicate pages as well as posts, auto-syndication capability and rate limiting so you don't get booted off the Web 2.0 sites for spamming.

The plug-in itself is very easy to install and activate, just like other WordPress plug-ins.  It will take an hour or so the first time you use it because you'll have to set up all your accounts for the various sites that your content gets syndicated to.  To make it very easy for you, Andy has included instructions right in the menu plus some helpful videos to walk you through many of the steps.  He even built in the bit.ly connection so your links are automatically shortened for the micro-blogging sites like Twitter.

One of the favorite features for many of the early users is the ability to syndicate past posts.  Once the plug-in is installed and set up, you will see a link that says “click here to syndicate” whenever you go to edit a post.  You can syndicate old or new posts at the click of a button.

Do be careful not to overdo it as you will look like a spammer.  Andy recommends doing just a couple posts per day, perhaps one new and one old.  This will also give your readers time to see what you have to offer on the Web 2.0 sites instead of drowning them the first day out.

I've been using it on a couple of my blogs and the results are unbelievable... Check it out here.

Mobile Blogging is Happening Now

Mobile blogging is an exciting phenomenon that is sweeping the blogosphere. One of the reasons why a lot of bloggers are attracted to the medium of blogging in the first place is that they enjoy being able to make frequent updates and posts that keep all of their visitors up to speed with current situations. Mobile blogs, or "moblogs," take this to the extreme by allowing users to post things literally as they happen. This new wave of moblogs and mobloggers keep web surfers up to date with good and bad events of importance as they occur all over the world, helping to make international communication faster and more accurate.

Many people feel that the limitations of blogging have a lot to do with geography. After all, there is only so current that a blog can be when you need to run home and boot up in order to update it. However, mobile blogging marks the beginning of an thrilling new era when web-based communication can happen spontaneously from any location. Moblogging devices mean that there is almost nowhere on the planet that remains off-limits for bloggers.

Mobile blogging is still in its infancy because the technology that makes it possible has only recently hit the global market. The first moblog technology became available over a decade ago, but it is only the past two or three years that mobile web devices have become user-friendly enough to appeal to most consumers. As camera phones and other mobile technology become more popular, more and more bloggers are getting away from their desks and are hitting the streets. Moblogging is becoming much more widespread that it was even a few months ago, and mobloggers are quickly attracting a lot of attention with the blogging community. It is not yet clear whether moblogs will become the dominant kinds of blogs in the years to come, but the current trend seems to imply that moblogs are here to stay.

Mobile devices make it possible to blog from the sites where current events are unfolding, which is one of the reasons why mobile blogging has so much thrilling potential to revolutionize the blogosphere. A moblogger with a camera phone can post blog entries from, say, the foot of the podium at a presidential speech, or from the stands during the final moments of the world series. This enables bloggers to experience the same real time thrills that live television coverage provides, but in a more democratic medium. The combination of mobility and individual control that moblogging provides certainly places mobloggers on the cutting edge of today's communications technology, and it is hard to imagine that the number and prestige of moblogs will not continue to grow in the coming years.

All You Need to Know to Start Blog Marketing

Whether you are new to blogging or not we always want more ideas to drive readers to our blog pages. Marketing your blog the right way will give you the results that you are looking for. You are going to find that you can not just make a blog, post in it a couple of times, and then expect for the world to find you. That just will not happen how much you wish for it. However, you can market your blog effectively, and get the results that you are looking for.

To begin blog marketing you first need a blog. The next step is to ensure that your blog is updated frequently. Post content in your blog regularly for the best results. Some will post once a day and others once a week. Whichever it is, be consistent with it and know that it will pay off to continue posting as you should. This is a great way to get started with blog marketing. You wont have a blog to market if you do not post in it regularly.

While most free blogs all look the same, you can make sure that your blog design stands out. You don’t want your blog to look and feel like everyone else’s, so make it different. Having your own look is a huge plus in the blog marketing world. You will find that most blogs all look the same and you can have your own look by just using HTML and adjusting the code to suit your taste. You are going to see that this will truly make a difference with your blog as well as your readers. Try to get a theme that is going to match the market that you are promoting in your blog. Doing so will make it look even more professional. You don’t want your readers to confuse your blog with others do you? If this is something that you are concerned about, you will definitely want to make sure that you change yours to make more personable. However, if you are not worried about it or concerned about it in the least, you can leave the design as one of the free templates that you see so frequently used.

Something else that will help you with your blog marketing is exchanging links with authority blogs and websites that are in your same market is another great way to get the word out about your blog. The authority sites are going to have a higher page rank, and will also be listed high in Google’s search results. So do some searches and check those out and see if they are up to exchanging links. If they are not, you could always just add those into your blog roll. You do not need permission to do that if they are not into linking. However, in the world of blogs, most blog owners are thankful for all links, and are willing to return the favor. This is a great way to market your blog that some do not think about or use. If you use this technique to get your blog seen, you will not be sorry. It is a trick you can even use to market your website.

Improve Your Blogs SEO Score

Bloggers who are interested in reaching a large audience with their blog should consider paying special attention to search engine optimization of their blog. Reaching a large audience may be a priority for a number of different reasons. One of the obvious reasons to attempt to generate increased traffic to a blog is to generate a profit. Bloggers who rely on high blog traffic for their revenue are obviously interested in increasing traffic. However, bloggers who create their blog to promote a cause may also be interested in increasing traffic simply to allow their message to reach a larger audience. Regardless of the reason to want to increase traffic, one of the best ways to do this is by optimizing the blog for search engines. This article will discuss the importance of search engine rankings and offer tips for optimizing a blog.

Why Search Engine Rankings are Important

The importance of high search engine rankings is they can contribute to increased Internet traffic to the blog. This is because Internet users who use search engines to find information on a particular topic are much more likely to visit websites which appear on the first page of the search results than they are to visit websites which appear on subsequent pages of the search results. The websites appearing on the first page of the results are likely to get the most traffic. However, Internet users are not likely to search through more than a page or two of the search results when looking for more information on a particular subject.

High search engine rankings essentially act as free advertisement for a blog or website. This is because many website users rely on popular search engines to assist them in finding useful information on the Internet. The search engines apply complex algorithms to evaluate websites and rank them accordingly for specific search terms. As a result Internet users put a great deal of value on the search results produced and trust these results to lead them to the best available websites relevant to the keywords they specified in the search.

Tips for Optimizing a Blog for Search Engines

One of the most common ways to optimize a blog or website for search engines is through the use of relevant keywords. Specifically the practice of applying specific keyword densities to the content of the blog is a common search engine optimization tactic employed. Blog owners and others who attempt to optimize their websites do not always agree on the optimal density for keywords but many believe a percentage of approximately 2%-3% is appropriate.

Another method for optimizing a search engine optimization is to place relevant keywords into the code of the website. This includes the title tags and META tags. This is important because search engines often consider the prominence of keywords when evaluating a website. This refers to the location in which the keywords first appear. Placing keywords early in the content of the website is helpful but it is important to note the search engines view the code first so keywords appearing before the body of the blog will be crawled first by the search engines.

Blog owners can also help to increase their search engine rankings by generating back links to their blog. This can be accomplished in a number of different ways. One way to do this is to find other websites willing to place a link to the blog on their website. This is beneficial because many search engines factor the number of links to a website into their ranking algorithm because these links are considered to be one website vouching for the validity of another website. Some website owners may be willing to do this in return for a link to their website on your blog. This is known as reciprocal linking and some search engines may not value this link as highly as a link which is not reciprocated. There are also some link exchange programs but these links may not be beneficial because many search engines consider the rank of the website linking to your blog. Therefore, if the website linking to your blog does not rank well, the back link will not improve search engine rankings significantly.

SEOpressor Wordpress Plugin Review

When I first saw Daniel Tan's new plugin SEOpressor, I thought that it was just another Wordpress SEO plugin that did the same things that the better free ones did, so why would I pay money for it? But before I blew it off completely, I decided to take a closer look at it and am thankful that I did.

SEOpressor does do all of those things that the free ones do, but it does so much more. The main component that I like about it is that it will analyze each of your blog articles and give you an SEO score for them. It then gives you suggestions on how to make that score higher. Basically, it could be the difference in making the first page at Google (if you're pretty good at SEO already) and being in the number one spot on the first page.

Check out the video preview here.

SEOpressor, by far, is the best all around SEO plugin for Wordpress available, right now. I've tried and used most of the better ones out there and this one outshines them all.

Whether you are just starting up your blog or you have been at it for years, SEOpressor is worth taking a look at. I consider myself pretty good at SEO with the Wordpress platform, as I consistently get my posts ranked high in the search engines. I added this plugin to one of my niche sites and optimized the articles there with its suggestions and they are ranking higher than ever now... and still climbing.

Anytime that I can find something that will make my blogging easier and at the same time increase my SERP, I go for it. SEOpressor is one of those things. Check it out for yourself... I think you will like what you see.

You can also take a look at the Blog Meister's opinion on SEOpressor here.

Part 2 - Building Link Popularity

The first step, and the fastest way to get your foot in the door, is to get a listing in a popular directory, such as Open Directory Project and Yahoo. If your site is business-related, you will want to be listed on Yahoo, and despite the fact that it will cost you around $300 a year, it will be money well spent. If your site is non-commercial, the listing will be free, but it will take time and follow-up to actually get it listed. Open Directory gives you a free listing whether you are business-related or non-commercial, but be prepared to make a lot of follow-up inquiries before you see your site listed.

You are aiming to get listed in the highest level of the appropriate category, and this just takes some common sense. For example, if your company ships Alpaca wool from an Alpaca farm located in the middle of Nowhere, Tiny State, do NOT submit your listing to "Retailers from Nowhere, Tiny State."

BIG MISTAKE! All you have to do is look a little deeper - and submit your listing to the "Fine Alpaca Wool" category. You will not only associate yourself with culture and quality, but you will be listed in a national category.

The next step after you have attained directory listings is to locate other quality sites that will increase your link popularity. Try to find sites that are in some way related to your blog, so not only will your link popularity increase, but your reader base may also be expanded. You want to avoid your competitors and look for sites that are useful to your blog's readers. Let's look at the Alpaca Wool site example. Linking up to a site that sells knitting supplies would be helpful to your visitors, and the chances of the knitting supply site wanting to link up to your site are also greater. By linking to a related site that will be relevant to your blog's traffic, you are increasing both of your site's business prospects - and both of your sites' link popularity.

Not all sites want to link to other sites, so you will have to do some research when you are looking for possible linking partners. Google is an excellent starting place for your search. Make sure you enter keywords that you think quality customers will also enter to find your own site. Remember, your criteria are quality, highly ranked, non-competing websites that have a links or resources page. Go to these sites and objectively assess them. Look at the quality of the product, the graphics, and the ease of use. Then check out the other sites they are linked to, and determine if your blog would fit in with the crowd.

When you decide you have found a good prospect, you must set out to woo them. The first thing to do is to add a link on your own links page to their site.

This is an essential first step; it shows good faith, and ups your chances significantly of their reciprocity. After you have added their link, you must contact the webmaster of their site. Since this is almost always done by email, you want to make sure it is immediately clear that your message is not junk mail. This requires that you tell them right off the bat that you have added a link to their page on your site. A hook like this almost always insures the reader will read on.

Next, be sure to be flattering and let them know how much you appreciate their website. Make sure you emphasize that you have actually visited their site, and that their site is not just a random pick. Give them the address of your links page, and ask them to check out the link for themselves. It's a good idea to mention that they will not only benefit from the increased traffic your website will direct their way, but you will also increase their link popularity. Briefly, explain why link popularity is so essential, but do this in a sentence or two so you don't sound like a professor! Finally, tell them you would greatly appreciate it if they would reciprocally add a link on their own links page to your website.

Go through this process with as many appropriate sites as you can find, bearing in mind the criteria of quality and non-competitiveness. After you have emailed all relevant sites, be sure to check these websites frequently to see if they have added a link to your page. Give it about a month, and if no link appears, try another charming email. Then give it another month, and if your site is still absent from their links page, it's time to remove their link from your own links page. The only time you want to pursue a link further than this is if you believe a site is crucial to your link popularity and your blog's needs. Just remember to keep all your communications complimentary and cordial.

Then set up a schedule to check your ranking in Search Engines frequently to see if your link popularity has improved. This is not achievable in the blink of an eye. It will take some time and a good deal of work. There is no way around the labor-intensive quality of improving your link popularity, which is why Search Engines regard it with such importance.

By the way - make sure you have a beautiful, streamlined site or you will never persuade anyone to link up to you. Be prepared to keep plugging away at this process, as long as it takes, until you achieve link popularity stardom!

Building Link Popularity - Part 1

Search Engines are the gateway to the Internet; they are the first tool that potential readers to your blog use to find the information they need. This is why link popularity is so imperative. If the readers do not find your blog, you have no possibilities of making any sales from your product reviews or affiliate ads.

You're probably wondering what is popular about a link! Well, in a word - plenty! Link popularity refers to the ranking assigned to your blog by the Search Engines, and it determines the ranking your page gets when keywords are entered into a Search Engine. So, you're probably wondering, how do I make my links popular?

Search Engines are discretionary, giving status and ranking to sites that have links to their pages from related, quality sites. It's a simple formula, but a very important one. Google created the system, and now virtually all the most popular Search Engines employ it in some way to rank your blogs pages in their indexes.

The more commonly used your keyword is, the harder it will be to achieve link popularity, but without achieving this step, it is almost certain your blog will never rank highly on any Search Engine. But don't be discouraged; there are tried and true ways of achieving link popularity using the most competitive keywords.

There are a few things you should be aware of. The first is that just linking up with a large number of other websites will not achieve link popularity. In fact, it may have quite the opposite effect. This is particularly true when pertaining to websites that are nothing more than "link farms" - pages containing line after line of indiscriminate links. Search Engines may aggressively discriminate against your blog if you are associated with a link farm, so steer clear of them!

The next thing to bear in mind is the quality of the site you are linking to. Never link to a page you have reservations about your visitors seeing. The last thing you want your website to appear as is indiscriminate and cheap. Linking to sites of poor quality will only lessen your link popularity, if not completely destroy it.

In the next post we will get to what you need to do to achieve supreme link popularity and improve your blog's rankings to stellar status on all of the popular Search Engines.

Increase Your Blog's Search Engine Ranking - Part 2

Our next item to look at is link popularity. This is a factor that is extremely important in terms of Search Engine rankings. Almost all Search Engines use link popularity to rank your website. Link popularity is based on the quality of the sites you have linked to from your links page.

If you type in "free link popularity check" in a popular Search Engine, the Search Engine will then show you what sites are linked to your site. In the case that there aren't many sites linked up to yours, or that the sites that are linked up have low Search Engine rankings, consider launching a link popularity campaign.

Essentially, this entails contacting quality sites and requesting that they exchange links with your site. Of course, this requires checking out the rankings of the websites you want to link up with. Linking to popular, quality sites not only boosts your Search Engine ranking, but it also directs more quality traffic to your website.

Search Engine rankings are extremely important for a successful blog marketing campaign. Before you go out and hire a Search Engine optimization company, try taking some of the simple steps listed above, and see if you can't boost your rankings yourself. Don't ever ignore this all-important factor in blog marketing. Remember, the higher your Search Engine ranking, the more targeted readers (and customers) will be directed your way.

Increase Your Search Engine Ranking - Part 1

The methods employed to increase your Search Engine rankings may seem like rocket science to you, so you have probably avoided dealing with this issue. I am here to tell you - the time has come to face your blog! A high Search Engine ranking for your blog is so essential that if you have the slightest desire to actually succeed in blogging, there is no way you can continue to avoid this issue.

At least 85% of people looking for information on the Internet find websites through Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. The idea of optimizing your pages for high Search Engine rankings is to attract targeted customers to your site who will be more than likely to click your ads and make a purchase. The higher your page comes up in Search Engine results, the greater the traffic that is directed to your blog. That's what Search Engine optimization is about.

You can immerse yourself in all the technical information available online to figure out how to optimize your blogs pages to achieve higher rankings. Or you can look at a few simple items on your pages, make some small adjustments, and most likely see improved rankings quite rapidly. The first item you should examine is the title bar on your homepage.

The title bar is the colored bar at the top of the page. Look at the words that appear there when you access your home page. To increase Search Engine rankings, the words on your homepage's title bar should include the most important keywords or phrases, one of which would include your blog's name.

Then click on all your links and examine the title bars on the pages you access. Each title bar on every single page of your blog should contain the most important keywords and phrases taken from the page itself. However, avoid very long strings of keywords, keeping them to six words or less. Avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other.

The next item to put under your microscope is your blog content. Search Engines generally list sites that contain quality content rather than scintillating graphics. The text on your site must contain the most important keywords - the words that potential customers will be typing into Search Engines to find your site.

Aim to have around 250 to 500 words in each blog post, but if this is not desirable due to your design, aim for at least 100 carefully chosen words. If you want to achieve a high ranking on Search Engines, this text is essential. However, the Search Engines must be able to read the text, meaning that the text must be in HTML and not graphic format.

More to come in Part 2...
